2016 promises to be a busy year for the Dominican Republic, with a calendar of events and a range of attractions that attracts many visitors from around the world. The destination comes from a positive 2015 in terms of arrivals with 6,151,003 international visitors (+8.89 compared to 2014) and 81,818 visitors from Italy, recording a + 7% compared to 2015.

These first months of the year are already marked by a boost thanks to the many events already scheduled. At first the Carnival, the most lively and joyous expression of Dominican popular culture, where the entire population participate and every year attracts thousands of tourists. The big parade takes place on the beach of Santo Domingo with floats and groups of dancers.

The passage of the “ballenas jorobadas” in Samana Bay, is a unique event that attracts thousands of tourists in February and March that come to this area to experience one of nature’s most beautiful event: hundreds of mammals that mate and breed in hot water.

For true lovers of cigar February 21 to 26 will be held in Santiago, in the Cibao region, and La Romana south of the island, the Procigar Festival, an exhibition that brings together the leading manufacturers, distributors and consumers.

From 23 to 28 February will be held Master of the Ocean, an event that brings together in a single manifestation different water sports. Surfing, kiteboarding, windsurfing and Stand Up Paddle will be the protagonists on the beach of Playa El Encuentro in Cabarete, on the north coast.

Finally, also in February, will be held in the south west of the island, on the beach of Los Patos in Barahona, the Larimar Championship of Surfing, an opportunity to play sports and enjoy the pristine and wild areas of this interesting area of destination.
